ASID NATIONAL AWARDS
The 2025 National Awards are the Society’s highest professional recognition. The program is presented across three categories: the Annual Awards, the Legacy Awards, and the FOCUS Project Awards. From projects that champion wellness and sustainability to individual practitioners shaping the future of design, this year’s honorees represent the best of the interior design community.

Volunteer of the Year | The Annual Awards celebrate the work and accomplishments of practitioners with outstanding design achievements throughout the year, honoring educators, students, volunteers, advocates and more.
Erica McLain, ASID Allied – McLain by Design Interiors (Dallas)
FOCUS Wellness – Small Firm Winner: Valor House by McLain by Design Interiors | The FOCUS Project Awards spotlight the work of firms advancing the core values of the design profession through built projects. Each award honors a different facet of design excellence: wellness, community, sustainability and diversity.
ASID FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS
The ASID Foundation has named the recipients of its annual scholarships and awards—recognizing academic excellence, research innovation, and design with a purpose. These distinguished honors spotlight the next generation of designers advancing the field through interdisciplinary research and human-centered work. In ASID’s 50th year, the Foundation continues its commitment to elevating voices that are shaping a more sustainable, inclusive, and health-forward built environment.

Tamie Glass, ASID – University of Texas (Austin)
Joel Polsky Prize | This prize recognizes outstanding academic contributions to interior design through print or digital communication. Glass was recognized for “People and Space: Experience, Ethics and Intent,” which explores the relationship between the built environment and human behavior.
Fatemah Dianet, ASID Student, Ph.D. Student – Texas Tech University (Lubbock)
Joel Polsky Academic Achievement Award – Honorable Mention | This award recognizes an outstanding interior design research project or thesis project, specifically related to wellness in design, conducted by an undergraduate or graduate student. Dianet was bestowed Honorable Mention for her study on “Stack Ventilation vs. Cross Ventilation in Educational Buildings.” Her research aims to improve health and comfort in learning environments through climate-appropriate ventilation strategies, offering insights for architects and administrators working in hot, dry climates.
Pariya Sheykhmaleki, ASID Student, Ph.D. Student – Texas Tech University (Lubbock)
The Legacy Scholarship for Graduate Students | This scholarship supports students enrolled in or accepted to graduate-level interior design program. Sheykhmaleki’s research explores how spatial configurations affect well-being in healthcare environments, applying Space Syntax Theory to improve design outcomes for patients.
ASID ONES TO WATCH
ASID recognizes the need to grow diversity and inclusion in the interior design profession. Through ASID Ones to Watch, the Society supports rising leaders to ensure that diversity is reflected at all levels of the industry. The Ones to Watch program identifies and recognizes rising leaders in the interior design industry who demonstrate exceptional leadership potential and a willingness to push the boundaries of the profession. Emphasis is placed on participants whose backgrounds are currently under-represented in management roles in the interior design industry, including women, members of racial and ethnic minority groups, LGBTQ, and persons with disabilities.
