At ASID Texas, we’re combining our passion for design with a commitment to sustainability. Through our Samples for Education program, we’re collecting outdated design samples from our members and donating them to our Educator members at local high schools and colleges. This initiative supports future designers while keeping valuable materials out of landfills.
How It All Began
During the ASID Texas Board training session in September, ASID Educator Member Michelle Sowers of Duncanville High School shared her need for design samples to enrich her school library and teach her students. Our Board members didn’t hesitate—immediately filling her car with fabric and stone samples. From that moment, we realized the potential of this program to benefit educators and students across Texas.
Why It Matters
This initiative aligns with ASID Texas’s mission to promote the value of interior design, prepare members for success in a dynamic industry, and support professional development. By donating materials, we’re empowering educators to teach with real-world tools and inspiring students to dream big about their future in design.
The impact is two-fold:
- For educators and students: Access to high-end materials fosters learning and creativity, preparing students for future careers in design.
- For the planet: Reusing samples reduces the environmental impact of interior design, one of the largest contributors to landfill waste.
What We’re Collecting
We accept any and all outdated design samples to ensure nothing goes to waste. This includes:
- Fabric swatches
- Stone and tile samples
- Wallpaper books
- Lighting and hardware
- Paint samples and displays
- Flooring materials
